- GOP pushes for investigation into NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s citizenship status

- Critics label Zohran Mamdani, NYC mayoral primary winner, a Hamas supporter

- Trump’s border chief vows ICE will ramp up enforcement in sanctuary cities

Republicans and allied groups are pushing for a federal probe into the citizenship of Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic primary winner for New York City’s mayoral race, with some demanding his denaturalization and deportation.

Mamdani, the son of Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair, has been thrust into a political maelstrom following his primary victory ahead of the November NYC mayoral election.

Amid these calls for investigation and removal, President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, issued a stern warning to Mamdani, declaring that immigration enforcement will double and triple down on sanctuary cities. Homan emphasized that if ICE cannot detain individuals in jails, agents will track them down in neighborhoods or workplaces, stating, Game on, we’re coming.

Mamdani, a state assembly member since 2021 and a U.S. citizen since 2018 after graduating college, has also faced Islamophobic attacks over his political positions and views on U.S. foreign policy.

Tennessee Republican Congressman Andy Ogles has called on the federal government to strip New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani of his U.S. citizenship and launch deportation proceedings against him.

In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, Ogles pressed the Department of Justice to investigate whether Mamdani’s citizenship was obtained through deliberate misrepresentation or concealment of material support for terrorism.

Following Mamdani’s Democratic primary victory, the New York Young Republican Club, a Manhattan-based GOP organization for 18- to 40-year-olds, founded in 1911, issued a call to action on X.

The group declared, The radical Zohran Mamdani must not be allowed to ruin our cherished city of New York, tagging White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan. This follows President Donald Trump’s recent labeling of Mamdani as a “100% Communist Lunatic.

The club urged Trump to invoke the Red Scare-era Communist Control Act to revoke Mamdani’s citizenship and swiftly deport him.

The Communist Control Act of 1954, enacted during the peak of Cold War anti-communist fervor, outlawed the Communist Party and permitted the revocation of rights for individuals linked to communist organizations, a law that remains in effect today.

The New York Young Republican Club urged White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan to take action against Zohran Mamdani, the 33-year-old Ugandan-American Democratic leader.

After Mamdani’s primary win, Miller told The Independent that New York City serves as the starkest warning yet of what happens to a society that fails to manage migration.

He further claimed, The entire Democratic Party is rallying behind a radical socialist who seeks to dismantle all immigration enforcement and completely abolish the prison system.

FAR-RIGHT COMMENTATOR PREDICTS NEW 9/11 THREAT FOR NYC

Far-right commentator and political activist Laura Loomer warned on X that New York City risks another 9/11 if Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor.

In a radio interview reported by The Guardian, New York City Council Member Vickie Paladino labeled Mamdani a known jihadist terrorist and communist, demanding his deportation despite his U.S. citizenship.

New York Representative Elise Stefanik, once tapped by Trump for UN ambassador, sent fundraising emails denouncing Mamdani as a Hamas terrorist sympathizer before the primary race was decided.

The furor grew in conservative circles, with Donald Trump Jr. amplifying a social media post stating, I’m old enough to remember when New Yorkers endured 9/11 instead of voting for it, adding his own remark: New York City has collapsed.

NYC NOT AN AMERICAN CITY ANYMORE'

Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, serving the 14th congressional district since 2021, fueled controversy by sharing an AI-generated image of the Statue of Liberty draped in a black burqa, portraying a digitally altered version of the iconic monument.

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh criticized New York City’s 40% foreign-born population, claiming it’s no longer an American city. The uproar stemmed from Zohran Mamdani’s campaign promises, his stance on Israel, and his vocal support for the Palestinian cause.

Mamdani, son of Ugandan academic Mahmood Mamdani and married to Syrian-American artist Rama Duwaji, faced further attacks during Tuesday’s contentious Democratic primary, where NYC Mayor Eric Adams branded him a snake oil salesman after Mamdani defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was vying for a political comeback.

MAMDANI'S POLITICAL JOURNEY SO FAR

Since 2021, Zohran Mamdani has represented Astoria, Queens, in the New York State Assembly. His win in the mayoral primary signals growing support for his vision in New York City.

Mamdani’s campaign proposes bold initiatives, including city-operated grocery stores, a freeze on rent hikes for rent-stabilized housing, and free public buses, funded by a $10 billion tax increase on corporations and affluent residents, he stated.

His outspoken stance on global issues, particularly his strong pro-Palestinian advocacy, has sparked fierce criticism from pro-Israel groups. Supporters hail him as a vital, progressive force for the city’s future. Born in Kampala, Uganda, to Indian-origin parents, Mamdani relocated to New York with his family at age seven in 1998, becoming a U.S. citizen in 2018 after college.

His mother, Mira Nair, is a celebrated filmmaker known for acclaimed works like Monsoon Wedding, The Namesake,  and Mississippi Masala, while his father, Mahmood Mamdani, is a distinguished anthropology professor at Columbia University.
