Eid-ul-Adha 2025 moon sighting announcement, keeping the key details about the crescent moon sighting in Oman, UAE, and Saudi Arabia for Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH, and Saudi Arabia’s announcement of official dates for Hajj 2025 and Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid/Eid-ul-Zuha)
Eid-ul-Adha 2025 moon sighting LIVE: The twelfth and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Dhul Hijjah, is deeply revered by Muslims globally, as it hosts the sacred Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and culminates in the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha (also called Bakra Eid, Bakrid, Eid al-Adha, Eid-ul-Zuha, Eid Qurban, Qurban Bayarami, or the Feast of Sacrifice) on the tenth day. This holy month is a period of profound devotion, introspection, and worship.
On the tenth of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims worldwide observe Eid-ul-Adha, performing cattle sacrifices to honor the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail to Allah, symbolizing their readiness to sacrifice what they cherish most for God’s sake.
The sacrificial meat or meal is divided into three equal portions: one for the family, one for relatives, and one for the poor and needy, reflecting the belief that while the meat and blood do not reach Allah, the sincerity of His followers does.
The traditional practice of sighting the crescent moon, whether with the naked eye or binoculars, remains crucial for determining the dates of key Islamic events. Once the first day of Dhul Hijjah is confirmed by moon sighting, the tenth day, marking Eid-ul-Adha, is calculated, varying by region.
This year, Muslims in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, other Arab countries, and nations like the UK, US, France, and Canada prepared to spot the Eid-ul-Adha crescent moon on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the 29th of Dhul Qadah. The moon was sighted that evening, establishing the start of Dhul Hijjah on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, with Eid al-Adha set for June 6, 2025, and Youmul Hajj (Arafat Day) on June 5, 2025.
