RJD Leader and Former Deputy CM of Bihar Shares Heartwarming News of Newborn Son, Named by Lalu Prasad Yadav, Amid Joyous Family Celebrations
On May 27, 2025, Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, and his wife Rajshree Yadav celebrated the birth of their second child, a son, in a Kolkata hospital. Tejashwi shared the news on X with enthusiasm, posting a photo and writing, “Good Morning! The wait is finally over! So grateful, blessed and pleased to announce the arrival of our little boy. Jai Hanuman!” The baby was named Iraj Lalu Yadav by his grandparents, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, with the name reflecting the auspicious timing of his birth on a Tuesday, a day dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The couple’s first child, their daughter Katyayani, was born in March 2023 during Navratri, continuing the family’s tradition of meaningful names tied to cultural and spiritual significance.
The birth drew congratulations from political figures across the spectrum, including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who visited the family in Kolkata. Lalu Prasad, visibly moved, shared pictures of himself cradling his grandson, emphasizing the joy of welcoming Iraj, the younger sibling to Katyayani. The event, however, comes amid family tensions, as Tejashwi’s elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, was recently expelled from the RJD and disowned by Lalu for “irresponsible behaviour” ahead of Bihar’s upcoming elections. Despite this, Tej Pratap extended warm wishes to Tejashwi on X, calling himself “Bade Papa” and blessing his nephew.
Tejashwi and Rajshree, married since 2021 in an inter-faith union, have embraced their growing family as a symbol of unity, with Tejashwi often highlighting their diverse backgrounds in his political messaging. A bizarre rumor on X about a CBI case against the newborn in a land-for-job scam lacks any credible evidence and appears to be misinformation. The arrival of Iraj brings a moment of happiness to the Yadav family as they navigate personal and political challenges.
