Neeraj Chopra showcased top form in Paris on Friday, capturing his first Diamond League title in two years by outclassing Germany’s Julian Weber.

The Indian javelin ace sealed the win with a brilliant opening throw of 88.16m. He followed it up with an 85.10m effort on his second attempt, before recording three consecutive fouls. In his final attempt, he managed a throw of 82.89m.

Julian Weber secured second place with an impressive opening throw of 87.88m, while Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio da Silva claimed third after recording 86.62m on his second attempt.

Neeraj Chopra had recently stunned fans by breaching the coveted 90m mark at the Doha Diamond League with a mighty 90.23m throw, yet narrowly missed gold as Julian Weber snatched victory with a last-round stunner of 91.06m.

The rivalry intensified at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial meet in Poland, where Weber again edged past Chopra in tough, windy conditions posting 86.12m to Chopra’s 84.14m.

Chopra's last Diamond League triumph came in Lausanne back in June 2023 with an 87.66m throw. Since then, the Olympic champion had to settle for second place in six consecutive Diamond League appearances until he roared back in Paris.

Notably absent from the Paris showdown was Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who missed yet another major clash, leaving fans waiting for the next big rivalry to ignite.

Here’s how the final standings looked like in Paris-

Neeraj Chopra: 88.16m
Julian Weber: 87.88m
Luiz Mauricio da Silva: 86.62m
Keshorn Walcott: 81.66m
Anderson Peters: 80.29m
Julius Yego: 80.26m
Andrian Mardare:76.66m
Remi Rougetet: 70.37m

Neeraj Chopra returned to the Paris Diamond League after an eight-year gap, having last competed there in 2017, where he finished eighth with a best throw of 84.67m.

The Paris leg marked the eighth stop in the 15-meet Diamond League 2025 season, which will culminate in a two-day final in Zurich this August.
