India Faces Rising COVID-19 Cases as Active Count Reaches 1,010, Punjab Steps Up Contact Tracing

New Delhi, May 27, 2025 – A fresh wave of COVID-19 cases is sweeping through India, with the active case tally hitting 1,010, according to recent health ministry reports. This upsurge, fueled by new variants, has put states on high alert, with Punjab leading efforts to contain the spread through aggressive contact tracing.

The country recorded 752 new infections recently, pushing the active caseload past 1,000. Kerala is the hardest hit with 430 active cases, followed by Maharashtra at 209, Delhi at 104, and Karnataka at 47. Meanwhile, states like Andaman and Nicobar and Arunachal Pradesh report negligible or zero cases, highlighting uneven spread across regions.
