India Unleashes Operation Sindhu: Dramatic Rescue of Nationals as Iran-Israel Conflict Explodes

In a race against time and amid the thunderous backdrop of escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel, the Government of India has launched a high-stakes, emergency evacuation mission Operation Sindhu aimed at rescuing Indian nationals stranded in the conflict-ridden zones of Iran. The first wave of this daring rescue saw 110 Indian students dramatically airlifted to safety, as the situation on the ground grows increasingly volatile.

The tension in the region has reached a boiling point, with fears of a wider regional war mounting by the hour. As diplomatic efforts teeter on the edge and missile sirens echo across the Middle East, India has moved swiftly and decisively, prioritizing the safety of its citizens amid the chaos.

In an official statement released on June 18, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) acknowledged the gravity of the situation and confirmed that the Indian government has been “taking various steps over the last several days” to safeguard its nationals. The statement emphasized the urgency of the operation, citing the "deteriorating situation" as a direct consequence of the spiraling conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

This high-profile mission comes as the region braces for further military escalations, with global powers watching anxiously. Operation Sindhu, while only just beginning, underscores India's unwavering commitment to protecting its citizens no matter where they are or how dangerous the circumstances.

As the evacuation mission unfolds, more flights are expected in the coming days, with Indian embassies and crisis response teams working round the clock. With the situation in the region fluid and unpredictable, Operation Sindhu stands as a symbol of swift diplomacy, strategic coordination, and national resolve in the face of international turmoil.

First Phase of Operation Sindhu Sees 110 Indian Students Evacuated from Iran via Armenia in a Coordinated Midnight Rescue

In a bold and meticulously coordinated first phase of Operation Sindhu, the Indian government has successfully evacuated 110 Indian students from northern Iran, navigating rising regional tensions and the looming threat of conflict. The operation, executed with precision, saw the students transported overland into neighboring Armenia under the careful supervision of Indian diplomatic missions in both countries.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the evacuation unfolded on June 17, 2025, as Indian officials orchestrated a safe and swift crossing into Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, amidst a backdrop of growing uncertainty in the region.

Once in Yerevan, the rescued students were swiftly prepped for departure. A special commercial flight carrying the group took off at 2:45 PM local time on June 18, bound for New Delhi, where they are expected to touch down in the early hours of June 19  marking the successful conclusion of the initial wave of India’s high-priority extraction mission.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X:

“India accords the highest priority to the safety and security of her nationals abroad.”
