In a shocking turn of events, Diljit Dosanjh’s much-anticipated film Sardaar Ji 3 has ignited a firestorm of controversy with the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. As a key producer, Diljit unveiled the film’s trailer featuring Aamir on June 22, but the decision has backfired spectacularly.

Citing escalating India-Pakistan tensions following the devastating Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 and the high-stakes Operation Sindoor on May 7, the filmmakers have scrapped the movie’s India release.

Despite Diljit boldly announcing June 27 as the global release date, Indian authorities, including the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), have unleashed a dramatic ban on Diljit Dosanjh himself, effectively blacklisting the star in India’s entertainment industry.

What's the buzz all about?

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) President, BN Tiwari, informed NDTV of their decision to issue a directive banning Diljit Dosanjh and the producers of his upcoming film from working in India.

Tiwari stated, We will enforce a complete non-cooperation policy. Should the film be released, we will issue a directive to halt cooperation, ensuring Diljit Dosanjh is unable to secure work in films or concerts across India. He further emphasized, If he proceeds with the film's release, he will be barred from working in India.

The All Indian Cine Workers Association has also announced a boycott of Diljit Dosanjh in the Indian film industry. In a post on X, the association declared, "We call for a complete boycott of singer and producer Diljit Dosanjh.

We urge all Indian producers, production houses, music companies, event organizers, and film workers to unite and refrain from collaborating with him professionally. We will engage with industry unions, workers' bodies, and stakeholders to enforce this patriotic stance.

Additionally, FWICE has submitted a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) requesting that the censor certificate for the film, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Hania, be withheld.

On Sunday, June 22, Diljit Dosanjh unveiled the trailer for his upcoming film on social media, revealing its release date. Posting on his official Instagram account, he captioned, "Sardaar Ji 3 hitting theaters on June 27.

The promotional campaign for Sardaar Ji 3 stirred intrigue when the film's teaser excluded Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, only for her to make a prominent appearance in the official trailer.

However, fans in India faced disappointment as the trailer, uploaded on YouTube, was geo-blocked in the country, limiting access to the much-anticipated preview.
Sardaar Ji 3, a horror-comedy, features a star-studded cast led by Diljit Dosanjh, alongside Hania Aamir and Neeru Bajwa, promising a blend of thrills and laughs.

This development follows another high-profile controversy in Indian cinema. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) recently imposed a ban on the release of Abir Gulaal, a film that would have marked the return of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan to Indian screens after a nine-year hiatus. The decision sparked debates about cross-border collaborations in the industry.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, filmmaker and industry figure Ashok Pandit addressed the situation, taking aim at Diljit Dosanjh’s apparent indifference to the sentiments surrounding such controversies.

He remarked, This attitude reeks of arrogance, a belief that these issues don’t matter. That’s sheer hubris, and it’s critical to challenge it. When you live in this nation, earn your livelihood here, and benefit from its resources and the emotions of its people, you bear a tremendous responsibility.

With millions of followers looking up to you, your actions carry weight, and that responsibility only grows larger.” Pandit’s comments underscore the heightened scrutiny on celebrities amid ongoing tensions over cross-border talent in Indian cinema.

In Brief: The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has imposed a ban on Diljit Dosanjh’s film and concert activities in India due to the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his film Sardaar Ji 3.

Additionally, FWICE has urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to withhold the film’s certification, citing concerns over cross-border collaborations amid ongoing tensions.
